How to remove echo in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Select the dialogue clip, open Essential Sound, tag it as Dialogue, and under Repair tick Reduce Reverb. For more control, apply the DeReverb effect from Noise Reduction/Restoration.
In Premiere Pro
01
Tag as Dialogue
In Essential Sound, tag the clip as Dialogue.
02
Reduce Reverb
Under Repair, tick Reduce Reverb and raise it slowly while listening.
03
Or apply DeReverb
Search the Effects panel for DeReverb, drag it onto the clip and set the amount in Effect Controls.
04
Try Enhance Speech
On Premiere Pro 24.5 and later, Enhance Speech often removes room sound better than either.
- Heavy reverb can't be removed fully. A closer microphone fixes it at the source.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie has no echo or reverb removal. Do this in Premiere.
Eddie's audio cleanup removes noise such as hum, hiss and traffic, but echo and reverb removal, EQ and de-essing aren't Eddie tools. Build the edit in Eddie, export it to Premiere, and use DeReverb or Enhance Speech there.
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.

- What is the difference between echo and reverb?
- Echo is a distinct repeat. Reverb is the wash of reflections in a room. Both effects in Premiere target reverb.
- Can I remove echo from a phone recording?
- Partly. Enhance Speech gives the best result on phone audio.
