How to recover an unsaved or crashed Premiere Pro project
Short answer
Open the Adobe Premiere Pro Auto-Save folder next to your project, sort by date, and open the newest copy. Save it under a new name.
In Premiere Pro
01
Find the Auto-Save folder
It sits in the same folder as your project, named Adobe Premiere Pro Auto-Save, unless you moved it in Settings > Auto Save.
02
Open the newest copy
Sort by Date Modified and open the latest .prproj.
03
Save it properly
Choose File > Save As and give it a new name next to the original.
04
Auto-save more often
In Settings (Preferences) > Auto Save, set Automatically save every to 5 minutes and raise Maximum project versions.
- Turn on Save backup project to Creative Cloud in Auto Save settings for a copy off the machine.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie keeps version history, and can restore a deleted edit.
Ask "Restore the interview edit I just deleted." It returns as a new edit. A restore doesn't bring back captions, titles, music, color grades or crops, so add those again.
