How to organize footage in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Make bins for each type of footage (interviews, b-roll, music, graphics), color-label clips, add descriptions in the metadata columns, and use search bins to gather clips by keyword.
In Premiere Pro
01
Make bins
In the Project panel, click New Bin (or Cmd+B or Ctrl+B) and make bins such as Interviews, B-roll, Music, Graphics and Selects.
02
Label clips
Right-click clips and choose Label to color-code them, for example green for selects.
03
Add metadata
Show columns such as Description and Log Note in List view, and type notes about what each clip contains.
04
Make search bins
Type a word in the Project panel's search field and click Create new search bin. It updates as you add clips.
05
Mark selects
Make subclips (Cmd+U or Ctrl+U) of the best moments and put them in Selects.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie logs footage for you and hands Premiere organized bins.
Eddie writes an outline of each interview and a shot log of the b-roll. Export the logs as Premiere XML, and they open in Premiere as bins of soundbites grouped by subject. They also export as CSV, Word, a Google Doc or Sheet. Generating logs is free on projects under 90 minutes of A-roll; a log export costs 100 credits.

Questions
- How do I find a clip by what someone said?
- Transcribe the clips, then search the Transcript tab or the Project panel's search.
- Should I organize in Finder first?
- A clean folder structure on disk helps relinking later. Mirror it in your bins.
