How to dub a video into another language in Premiere Pro

Short answer

Premiere Pro has no automatic dubbing. Record or import a translated voice-over, put it on its own audio track, lower or mute the original voice, and line each line up with the picture.

In Premiere Pro

  1. 01

    Translate the script

Export the transcript, have it translated, and adjust line lengths so they fit the speaker's timing.

  2. 02

    Record or import the voice

Record with the track's voice-over button, or import the voice actor's files.

  3. 03

    Place it

Put the dub on its own audio track and line up each line with its original.

  4. 04

    Duck or mute the original

Lower the original dialogue under the dub, or mute it if you have a music-and-effects track.

  5. 05

    Export a version per language

Duplicate the sequence for each language so you can export them separately.

Eddie AI

Do it in Eddie

Eddie dubs the edit for you, and the dub arrives in Premiere on its own track.

Open the voice-over composer, choose Dub this edit, pick one of 90+ languages and a voice, or ask "Dub this edit into Spanish." The original speech ducks under the dub; to mute it, use the speaker toggle on the V1 rail, which carries into MP4 renders and Premiere exports. A run covers about 9 minutes of dialogue; lines that can't fit stay in the original language.

Back to Premiere

Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.

If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.

Questions

Does Premiere Pro have AI dubbing?
No. Premiere translates captions in recent versions, but not voices.
How do I keep music when dubbing?
Use a separate music-and-effects track without dialogue, and mute only the voice.
