How to cut to the beat of music in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Put the music in the sequence, play it, and press M on each beat to add markers. Then cut clips on the markers, or select clips in the bin and use Automate to Sequence with Placement set to At Unnumbered Markers.
In Premiere Pro
01
Lay the music
Put the track on an audio track in an empty sequence.
02
Mark the beats
Deselect every clip, play the sequence, and press M on each beat. Premiere drops sequence markers.
03
Turn on snapping
Press S so clip edges snap to the markers.
04
Automate the cut
Select clips in the Project panel in the order you want, choose Clip > Automate to Sequence, set Placement to At Unnumbered Markers, and click OK.
05
Adjust
Watch it through and move cuts that land a frame early or late.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Ask Eddie to snap the cuts to the beat.
Add music in Eddie, generated or uploaded, and ask to snap the cuts to the beat. The music goes to Premiere on its own audio track with the cuts already timed to it.
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.
