How to export in 4K in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Edit in a 3840 x 2160 sequence, then export H.264 or HEVC with Match Source - High bitrate. A 1920 x 1080 sequence exported at 4K is only upscaled.
In Premiere Pro
01
Check the sequence
Open Sequence > Sequence Settings and confirm the frame size is 3840 x 2160 (UHD) or 4096 x 2160 (DCI).
02
Choose the codec
In Export mode, choose H.264 for compatibility or HEVC (H.265) for a smaller file.
03
Match the source
Choose Match Source - High bitrate, and confirm the output shows 3840 x 2160.
04
Use maximum quality
Tick Use Maximum Render Quality if the sequence has scaled footage, then export.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie renders 4K MP4s at the same cost as 1080p.
Choose MP4 - 4K (2160p) under Export > All export options > Video file. A cloud MP4 from a desktop import is rendered from the proxy, so it's no sharper than your Proxy Resolution setting. A separate, paid 4K upscaled option is also listed.
