How to sync audio and video in Premiere Pro
Short answer
Put the camera clip and the recorder's audio in the Timeline on separate tracks, select both, right-click and choose Synchronize. Choose Audio and click OK. Premiere lines them up by the waveforms.
In Premiere Pro
01
Place both clips
Put the video with its scratch audio on V1 and A1, and the separate recorder's audio on A2.
02
Synchronize
Select both clips, right-click and choose Synchronize. Choose Audio as the sync point and click OK.
03
Check it
Play a moment with hard consonants or a clap. If it sounds doubled, nudge the audio one frame at a time.
04
Mute the scratch track
Mute or delete the camera's scratch audio so only the good recorder plays.
05
Or merge in the bin
To sync once and reuse it, select the clips in the Project panel, right-click and choose Merge Clips, and pick Audio. Premiere makes one merged clip.
- Long takes can drift when the camera and recorder run at slightly different rates. Sync near the middle, or cut the take and resync each part.
Eddie AI
Do it in Eddie
Eddie syncs separate cameras and audio when they come in together.
Files in the same import sync automatically by audio. If they arrived separately, ask "Sync all my cameras", or "Sync my cameras by picture" when the scratch audio is unusable. You can also give an offset by hand for free. To use the lav under a shot, ask "Use the lav audio under this shot."
Back to Premiere
Open the edit, click Export and choose Premiere. You get a Premiere project (.prproj) or the older Premiere XML. In the desktop app, Send to Premiere Pro builds the edit inside Premiere through Eddie's panel, which the app installs for you.
If you imported the footage through the desktop app, the timeline points at your original camera files, so Premiere relinks to them. If you uploaded on the web or pulled from cloud storage, it points at Eddie's proxy media; relink to those, not to the camera originals.

Questions
- Can Premiere sync without timecode?
- Yes. Synchronize and Merge Clips can line clips up by their audio waveforms.
- Why is my audio out of sync after a while?
- The devices recorded at slightly different rates. Resync in sections, or check that the frame rate is interpreted correctly.
