Resolve FCPXML.fcpxml

This is the interchange file that carries the most of your edit. Where most timeline formats hand over the cuts and little else, the Resolve FCPXML brings crop and reframe, motion and speed, the colour grade and levelled audio with it. If you are finishing in Resolve, this is usually the file you want.

How to export Resolve FCPXML from Eddie

  1. 01

    Open the edit

    Open the edit you want to finish in Resolve.

  2. 02

    Pick Resolve FCPXML

    In the export menu, choose the Resolve FCPXML row rather than the Resolve project row. The sublabel tells you which one you are taking.

    Choose your timecode

    Export with your source timecode, or with timecode zeroed if your Resolve project starts at zero.

    Import into Resolve

    In Resolve, File → Import → Timeline and choose the .fcpxml. Media relinks against your original files.

Questions

How is this different from the Resolve project export?
The Resolve project is a .drp — a real project file. This FCPXML is an interchange document, and it carries more of the creative work: crop, reframe, motion, speed, colour and levelled audio. Take the .drp when you want a project to open; take this when you want the detail of the edit to survive.
Why is my multicam flattened?
Multicam comes across as flat cuts rather than switchable angles. Every cut lands where Eddie put it — you simply cannot re-pick an angle afterwards. The Resolve project export keeps angles switchable.
What is the zero timecode option for?
If your Resolve timeline starts at 00:00:00:00 and your footage does not, source timecode can push the edit far down the timeline. Exporting with timecode zeroed lands it at the start instead.
