Burned-in captions are a decision you cannot undo. This export gives you the captions on their own instead: a ProRes 4444 movie with a genuine alpha channel, which you drop onto a track above your picture in any editor and reposition, restyle or remove whenever you like.

Opens in: Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, any editor that reads ProRes 4444.

Questions

Why not just burn the captions in?
Because burning them in is permanent. A separate caption layer can be moved, restyled, swapped for another language or removed entirely, long after the edit is finished — and the version without captions is still there underneath.
Is this a real alpha channel?
Yes. ProRes 4444 carries genuine transparency, so there is no matte to key and no black box behind the text.
I only want a subtitle file.
Then take SRT or VTT instead — those are text files your player or platform renders itself, and they cost nothing to change later.
