Remove filler words and silences

Ask Eddie to remove filler words and long pauses in one prompt; it uses the transcript to cut "um", "uh" and false starts and to tighten or drop silent gaps while keeping speech intact.

Filler words and dead air are the two things that make raw footage feel raw. Eddie removes both from the transcript, so speech stays intact.

Strip filler words

Prompt: "Remove filler words." Eddie cuts "um", "uh", "you know", and false starts, leaving clean sentences. You can be selective: "remove ums but keep natural pauses."

Tighten or remove pauses

Silent gaps show on the timeline as teal Pause segments. You can:

  • Remove them — "cut the long pauses" tightens the pacing.

  • Keep some — "leave a beat after the punchline."

A pause means silence: Eddie checks the transcript timing so it never mistakes quiet speech for a gap. See Pauses and gaps for the detail.

Put it together

A reliable clean-up pass for any talking-head cut:

"Remove filler words and long pauses, then add captions."

Going the other way

Removed something you wanted? Ask Eddie to include a specific pause back, or to restore a line — it edits the same cut, so nothing is lost.

Next: captions and subtitles.
